How Our Calculators Work

Every calculator uses standard financial formulas verified by industry professionals. Enter your numbers and get instant results — no page reloads, no waiting.

Data Sources & Methodology

We use publicly available data from government agencies, industry associations, and leading financial institutions. Our calculations follow standard amortization and lease formulas recognized by the CFPB.

Understanding Your Results

Results show estimated values for educational purposes. Actual terms vary by lender, credit score, and market conditions. Always compare multiple offers before making financial decisions.

Privacy & Data Security

All calculations run locally in your browser. No data is sent to servers, no cookies track your inputs, and no personal information is collected. Your financial details stay private.

When to Use Each Calculator

Use auto loan calculator for monthly payments, lease calculator for leasing costs, refinance calculator to compare savings, early payoff calculator to see interest savings, and state pages for local tax and fee information.

Check Your State

State-specific vehicle tax rates, insurance averages, EV credits, and DMV fees.

How much your state changes the total

Two neighbours can buy the same vehicle at the same price and pay very different amounts to own it. Sales tax is the first difference: 5 of the 51 states and territories in our dataset levy no state sales tax on a vehicle purchase at all, while the highest base rate is 7.25% in California— and local districts frequently add more on top.

Annual insurance is the larger variable. Average premiums run from $1,230 in Ohio to $2,900 in Louisiana, a difference of $1,670 per year between state averages. Registration and title fees are smaller but still uneven, from $14 to $246.

Rules differ too, not just prices: 12 states operate no-fault insurance systems and 31 require periodic safety or emissions inspections. Purchase incentives have narrowed sharply — our dataset currently records no active state-level EV rebate in any of the 51 states and territories we track, consistent with several state programs winding down through 2025 and the federal clean-vehicle credit ending on September 30, 2025. Each state page lists its own tax rate, county add-ons, minimum coverage requirements, DMV fees, and inspection rules, so you can model your actual numbers rather than a national average.
