How the math works
Real (observed) MPG = miles driven ÷ gallons pumped, measured over a full tank. EPA window-sticker MPG comes from controlled laboratory city/highway cycles and is typically higher than real-world results; the U.S. gallon–to–liter factor is 3.785411784 L (NIST).
How to use this calculator
