How the math works
Fuel cost = (annual miles ÷ MPG) × price per gallon. MPG is defined by the EPA from standardized city and highway test cycles; 1 U.S. gallon = 3.785411784 liters exactly (NIST). To convert U.S. MPG to L/100 km: L/100 km = 235.214583 ÷ MPG.
